McCandless voters should ignore the Republican committee's endorsements
Every election, the McCandless Republican Committee sends a mailer announcing its endorsements. It does this because most voters do not research the actual candidates. Therefore, the committee’s endorsements result in victory for its handpicked candidates.
McCandless races run unopposed almost 100 percent of the time because the committee discourages competition.
We have a unique situation in McCandless this year. We have eight people running for four council district seats. We also have a county council race in District 2 and a school board race for the North Allegheny School District.
When voters receive their endorsement mailer from the McCandless Republican Committee, they should take the time to read who the members of the committee are and who they endorsed. It should be noted that all seven members of McCandless Town Council along with two of their spouses, three North Allegheny school board members, the endorsed candidate for Allegheny County Council District 2 and her husband, who chairs the committee, are all voting members. In other words, the candidates endorse themselves.
Call me old-fashioned, but I have always thought that members of political action committees should abstain from endorsement votes when they are the candidates.
Recent decisions by McCandless Town Council clearly show the best interests of our community are being ignored and will have long-lasting, negative effects. The future of McCandless depends on an informed electorate on May 19. Republican voters should disregard the McCandless mailer and instead vote for the real Republicans who have our community’s best interests at heart.
